Anthony Wu is an investor and businessman with a track record of successfully starting and running his own businesses in China. Mr. Wu grew up in Shanghai, studied in the United States from the early Eighties and moved back to China in the early Nineties as one of the earliest returnees. His previous experiences include making investments, setting up and managing businesses in China.
In 1990, Mr. Wu founded Sinon Development Corporation that made an investment into one of China‘s largest auto-parts manufacturers that owns more than 40% of the domestic market. After divesting all the investments in Sinon Development Corporation, Mr. Wu joined UBS as an Investment Manager in its Private Equity practice and later became a key member of the China Corporate Finance team. He led advisory teams for Hoffmann La Roche’s investment in China, 999 Pharmaceutical‘s RMB 2.5 billion IPO and MD Group’s MBO.
When he left UBS in 1997, Mr. Wu co-founded China Beacon Financial Services Company with Beijing International Trust and Investment Corporation that became a leading financial services company with average daily trading volume exceeding Rmb 200 million. He also co-founded Electronic News for China in 1988, a successful bilingual publication dedicated to the Chinese electronics and electrical engineers with a readership now exceeding 50,000. These businesses were sold for 34 times and 83 times their initial investment respectively.
In 1999 , Mr. Wu together with the People‘s University of China, co-founded Richina Financial Research Company that has become one of the leading policy and industry research companies in China as well as a successful mergers and acquisitions advisory firm.
In all instances of entrepreneurship, Mr. Wu has also managed these businesses as either the CEO, managing or executive director.
Over the past 15 years, Mr. Wu has developed and maintained strong government and business relationships in China that are indispensable to doing business and making successful investments.
Mr. Wu graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and received his Master of Business Administration from the same university.
