Siew Wing Keong was the President of H&Q Asia Pacific (“H&Q AP”) China and H&Q AP Hong Kong. He has been voted as one of the top 20 Venture Capitalists for China over the recent two years and is very well profiled in the venture industry in China. Mr. Siew first joined H&Q AP as Senior Vice President in 1989. He started the Malaysian operations for H&Q AP through a joint venture with the Malaysian government. Mr. Siew left H&Q AP in 1994 to form an equity partnership with the Union Bank of Switzerland to pursue private equity in Asia, especially in China. He rejoined H&Q AP in 1998 and was instrumental in starting H&Q AP Korea and raising KGRF (Korea Growth and Restructuring Fund)。
Prior to joining H&Q AP, he spent 15 years managing technology businesses in the Asia Pacific region. He started his career with Motorola Malaysia in 1975 where he held technical and management positions. He was General Manager, Asia Pacific for Schlumberger Systems Asia (Fairchild) and was Managing Director for Asia Pacific Region for both Mentor Graphics Corporation and Compaq Computer Asia. He was responsible for the Asian Pacific businesses of these prestigious multinationals and in the process has established very strong networks in the region that includes Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Silicon Valley and Australia.
Mr. Siew has successfully executed both technology investment and buy-out deals in Asia. His US$450 million equity and debt buy-out of Ssangyong Securities in 1998 was amongst the pioneering buy-out deals in Korea at the height of the financial crisis. The Asian Venture Capital Journal voted this deal as the “deal with the best return in Asia for 2002”。
Mr. Siew graduated from Singapore University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and received his Presidential/Key Executive MBA from Pepperdine University. Mr. Siew was born in Malaysia and is now a resident in Beijing.
